Check your real optionsHow a secured term loan repayment is calculated
This calculator uses the standard amortising repayment formula — the same capital-and-interest method most UK lenders use. Each month you pay the interest due on the outstanding balance plus a slice of the capital, so the balance falls to zero by the end of the term. Early payments are mostly interest; later ones are mostly capital.
For example, a secured term loan of £250,000 over 10 years at an indicative 8.4% works out at about £3,086.29 a month — roughly £370,355 repaid in total, of which £120,355 is interest. Change the amount, term or rate above to see how the numbers move.
What affects your rate
Pricing turns on the asset you secure against and its loan-to-value — more security and a lower LTV generally means a keener rate. The figures here are indicative illustrations, not quotes or offers — your real terms depend on the lender and your circumstances.
Frequently asked questions
Is this secured loan calculator an offer?
No — it's an indicative amortising illustration, not a quote. Your real rate and terms come from the lender after valuation and underwriting.
What rate should I use?
The default is indicative. Secured pricing depends on the asset you're borrowing against and the loan-to-value, so treat it as a starting point.
Does it account for valuation or legal costs?
No — it shows capital-and-interest repayments only. Secured facilities usually carry valuation and legal fees on top, which vary by lender.
